Hi, I'm James, aka - jbyers jbyers. I'm one of the founders of Wikispaces. I live in San Francisco, California. You can also find me at jbyers.com and my personal blog.

Are you a wiki-loving engineer? Wikispaces is hiring -- come work on a fast-growing, fun wiki site used by millions of people!

In August and September 2007, Amanda and I went to Africa. We took a lot of pictures, here are our favorites. Oh, and they're also over on flickr.

I'm the organizer for the home and buffalowings spaces in addition to this one. From time to time I also edit pages across the site to help clean up formatting and apply helpful wikitext that authors might not know about.

As always, if you see something that bugs you (pun intended) about how wikispaces works, drop a note in www/bugs or www/feature requests. Wikispaces is yours, and we're committed to making it work for you. You might also take a look at the Wikispaces blog: http://blog.wikispaces.com

Q. Is there a reason that I can't seem to translate my site using Babelfish? AP
A: When Babelfish goes out and tries to grab a page, it unfortunately doesn't follow redirects. We'll take a look into making an exception for this.

Q. How can I make a link open a new page? Also, how can I get something centered on the page?
A: Unfortunately, we don't support link targets yet. You can center images by clicking on them and choosing center align. As for text centering, it's an oft-requested feature that's on our list.
Comment: You can use embed media to do 'window.open' by embedding something like the following line.
<a href="http://www.stonybrook.edu/chemistry/" onclick="window.open('http://www.stonybrook.edu/chemistry/','','width=400,height=300');return false;">This link opens in a new window</a>

Q: I have a paid account, and have tried adding Amazon referral links to my site (the ones with images and banners) but was unable to using the embed code features....This would be a good feature as we could make our own product shops more easily using wikispaces. As it is, i've resorted to just using referral text links to Amazon products. Any chance of integrating referral banners etc? [my username is ademc, please leave reply, thanku]
A: Hi Ademc - Embedded Amazon links should work fine via the custom embed tool. Drop us a note at help@wikispaces.com with an example where it's not working and we'll take a look. - jbyers jbyers Jul 24, 2007

Q: I can't find the rss-feed address to include in my blogreader at Bloglines. Where can I find it?
A: Click on the "notify me" tab to get to a page's rss feed. For space-wide feeds, click on the link on the notify me page. - jbyers jbyers Feb 6, 2006

Q: Why do you let anyone edit your pages? I don't understand.
A: It's an easy way for people to let me know what's on their mind. I watch changes using RSS so I'm never really worried about abuse; if something goes wrong, I can just revert a page. - jbyers jbyers Dec 29, 2005

Q: Please could you tell me how to revert a page? I wanted to write I just found it forget this question and you already answered me; this is what I call excellent service, even though this question was silly.
A: Sure. Visit the history, click on a revision date, and click the revert page link in the header. - jbyers jbyers Nov 17, 2008

Q: Will you be adding blogging functionality to wikispace so we don't have to use a another solution?
A: It's something we've thought about. The trick for us is to add features without adding complexity or confusion from the core of what we provide. If you have ideas about how you'd like to see blogging work here, by all means send them to help@wikispaces.com - or create a wiki page somewhere that tells us what you're looking for!

Q: Are even free accounts allowed to have many spaces? I saw on your features page that you can create as many spaces as you like, but on the pricing and plans it says that only 1 space can be created. Could you please clarify? Thanks. (By the way, I haven't created an account yet, I just want to know.)
A: Hi - you may create as many free spaces as you like with your account! Sorry for the confusion, we'll try and clarify that a bit better on the pricing page.

Q: I have been searching high and low for storage amounts and have not had any luck in finding such information. I am a hobby photographer and as such have a bit of my photo collection I would like to display. Is there a limit on such things as storing photos? I have a free account. Thanks - Beamer
A: Hi Beamer - our storage limit for free spaces is 2 GB, max 10 MB per file. This can be found on the pricing page. Depending on the resolution you shoot at, that's probably a few hundred photos.
Reply by Beamer: Thanks for the quick response.

Q: Can you guys give us some sort of public timeline to let us know what features are coming?
A: Hi - we don't offer a timeline of upcoming features, but we do draw what we do next from email feedback, discussion posts, and other input from our members. If there's something you're looking for, let us know and we'll do our best to tell you where it is on our list!

Q: Not s much a question, but a comment. i just joined. Hopefully I can learn to navigate through; I want to start my class on this! Thanks!
A: Welcome!

Q: Yes, I have a question. I know a really good friend in my class that made a wikispaces and invited me to it. This person gave me Organizor for it, because this friend did the $20 per month. I looked at information, and I didn't know it was $20 per month, so I told this friend, and this friend started talking to me through private messages saying HELLPPP MEEEEEE!!!! So, I have looked all over but I cannot find a way to restore it back to free option. Is there any way you can restore it to Free Wiki, instead of paying? Do you have to delete wiki? If there is a way to restore it to normal, free wiki, please answer back. I appreciate it a lot. P.S. sorry if this post isn't really understanding.
A: You can downgrade your wiki back to our free plan -- drop us a note at help@wikispaces.com with the details (name of the wiki, in particular) and we'll help out.
